GATINEAU, QC, Jan. 24, 2024 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) today announced a new program that will recognize Canadian Paralympians for podium performances, providing a financial reward for medals won at the Paralympic Games.

Danielle Dorris caps Paralympic swimming trials with Canadian record
TORONTO - Danielle Dorris started and ended the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Trials with record performances.
The 21-year-old Paralympic Games champion from Moncton, N.B. concluded the week-long event Sunday breaking her two-year-old Canadian record twice in the women’s S7 50-metre freestyle. She bettered her 33.80 to 33.50 in the preliminaries then to 33.40 in the final.
Team of 20 Para swimmers nominated to Paris 2024 Canadian Paralympic Team
A team of 20 athletes has been nominated to represent Canada in Para swimming at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games following the conclusion of the Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials in Toronto, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Swimming Canada announced Sunday. Canada’s Para swimmers are the first athletes to be nominated to the Paris 2024 Canadian Paralympic Team, with 101 days to go until the start of the Games.

Reid Maxwell breaks his fifth Canadian record at Paralympic swimming trials

TORONTO – Reid Maxwell of St. Albert, Alta. might need his own chapter in the Canadian Para swimming record book.
The 16-year-old giant lowered his Canadian record in the men’s S8 100-metre backstroke clocking one minute and 08.86 seconds on Saturday, the sixth day of competition at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Trials.
Coach Jy Lawrence thinks ‘’outside the box’’ to put her Para swimmer on Games radar

TORONTO – One of Jy Lawrence’s early decisions when she became head coach of the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club in Surrey, B.C. was to integrate Sebastian Massabie into her top group.
Five years later, the 19-year-old Massabie is a world and national record holder and on the cusp of going to his first Paralympic Games this summer in Paris.
World record for Nicholas Bennett at Canadian Paralympic swimming trials
TORONTO – Nicholas Bennett of Parksville, B.C., broke the world record in the men’s S14 200-metre individual medley on Friday at the Para swimming Paralympic Games trials.
Bennett, the reigning world champion in the event, clocked two minutes and 05.97 seconds for the victory in the multiclass race. That smashed the previous world mark of 2:07.50 set by Gabriel Bandeira of Brazil at the 2022 world championships.
