Canadian record for Shelby Newkirk at Paralympic swimming trials

TORONTO – Shelby Newkirk of Saskatoon gained a huge dose of confidence Thursday breaking her Canadian record in the women’s S6 100-metre freestyle at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Trials.

The 27-year-old from Saskatoon clocked 1:13.68 and hopes to meet the A standard in her better events, including the 100 backstroke, this weekend and book a ticket to her second Paralympic Games

Move to Quebec City reenergizes Katarina Roxon for Paralympic Games year

TORONTO – For the first time in her 18-year national team career, Katarina Roxon left the confines of her club in Newfoundland and Labrador to train in Quebec City at Université Laval.

In the provincial capital she connected with her longtime national teammates Aurélie Rivard, Sabrina Duchesne, Abi Tripp, Nicolas-Guy Turbide, and Alec Elliott.

TORONTO – Ten-time Paralympic Games medallist Aurélie Rivard of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., Sabrina Duchesne of St-Augustin, Que., and Reid Maxwell of St. Albert, Alta., met the requirements for nomination to the 2024 Paralympic Games team on Wednesday at the Olympic & Paralympic Trials, Presented by Bell.

For Rivard, Canada’s most successful international Para swimmer for the past decade, Paris would represent a fourth Games appearance.
