Here’s the look ahead to Day 7, Wednesday September 4, for the Canadian Paralympic Team:
Para Cycling Road
Six Canadian Para cyclists are set for the start of road competition at Paris 2024, including track medallists Kate O’Brien, Keely Shaw and Alexandre Hayward. It is the time trial event for all riders.
O’Brien and Shaw will start the day for Canada at 8:14 a.m. CEST / 2:14 a.m. ET in the women’s C4 classification, followed by Mel Pemble in the women’s C3 at 9:02 a.m. CEST / 3:02 a.m. ET.
Nathan Clement will be making his Para cycling debut at the Games at 10:19 a.m. CEST / 4:19 a.m. ET in the men’s T1-2 time trial. Clement competed at the Rio 2016 Games in Para swimming.
Hayward will be up in the men’s C3 category at 2:25 p.m. CEST / 8:25 a.m. ET and closing out the day will be Charles Moreau in the men’s H3 event. It will be the first race in Paris for Moreau, a two-time Paralympic medallist from Rio 2016.
Para Athletics
It is a throwing day for Para athletics. Highlighting the trio of athletes in action is Greg Stewart, defending Paralympic champion in the men’s F46 shot put. Stewart retired after the Tokyo 2020 Games but made a comeback for Paris. He was a silver medallist at the 2024 world championships earlier this year. His competition starts at 10:05 a.m. CEST / 4:05 a.m. ET.
Also up for Canada are Charlotte Bolton in the women’s F41 discus, starting at 10 a.m. CEST / 4 a.m. ET and Paralympic debutant Katie Pegg in the women’s F46 shot put at 11:47 a.m. CEST / 5:47 a.m. ET.
Para Swimming
Eight Para swimmers will be racing in the morning heats, with newly-minted Paralympic champion Nicholas Bennett leading off for Canada. A gold and silver medallist in Paris already, his next event up is the men’s 200m individual medley SM14 at 9:45 a.m. CEST / 3:45 a.m. ET.
He will be followed by Philippe Vachon and Reid Maxwell in the men’s 400m freestyle S8; Abi Tripp in the women’s 400m freestyle S8; Shelby Newkirk, Tess Routliffe, and Sabrina Duchesne in the women’s 100m freestyle S7; and Mary Jibb in the women’s 100m freestyle S9.
Evening finals start at 5:30 p.m. CEST / 11:30 a.m. ET.
Boccia
The Canadian duo of Alison Levine and Iulian Ciobanu have moved into the BC4 pairs elimination rounds and will take on Ukraine in the quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. CEST / 4:30 a.m. ET. Should they advance, the semifinals will then run at 6:50 p.m. CEST / 12:50 p.m. ET.
Goalball
The Canadian women’s goalball team wraps up its tournament Wednesday, facing off against Japan for fifth place at 10:45 a.m. CEST / 4:45 a.m. ET.
Wheelchair Basketball
Canada will take on Germany in the women’s wheelchair basketball quarterfinals at 9:30 p.m. CEST / 3:30 p.m. ET. A spot in the medal rounds is at stake. The Canadian squad, fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Games, finished second in their pool with a 2-1 record while Germany was third at 1-2 in their group. At the 2022 worlds, Germany was fourth to Canada’s fifth.
