Para swimmer Ali Diehl wins two medals in same race

Ali Diehl of Prince Albert, Sask., won two medals in the same women’s 100-m breaststroke race on Saturday at the Para swimming World Series stop in Paris.

Diehl clocked the third best time overall clocking 1:21.61 which was also the fastest time among the youth age swimmers for gold in that category.

Adding to the significance of the event, Ali also successfully completed her International Para Swimming Classification, an important step that officially confirms athlete eligibility and sport class status for international competition.

“Winning medals at an international championship while completing international classification is a huge accomplishment,’ said Diehl’s coach Hazem Hussein. ‘’We are extremely proud of her commitment, resilience, and professionalism.”

At the world championships last year, Diehl placed fourth in the women’s 100-m breaststroke SB9.  She was youngest member of the Canadian team at 16 and also contributed to a fifth-place finish by the mixed 4×100 medley relay 34 points.

Tight matches highlight World Boccia Cup Montreal 2026

The World Boccia Cup Montreal 2026 concluded this weekend following team and pairs competition, marking the first major international event of the season and an early benchmark for Team Boccia Canada.

With 21 nations competing, the event highlighted the increasing depth and competitiveness of international boccia, as matches across all classifications were closely contested and reflective of a rising global standard.

For Canada, the competition served as a key evaluation point, offering insight into veteran athletes, emerging talent and new pair combinations.

In BC4, the experienced duo of Alison Levine and Iulian Ciobanu entered as the top-ranked pair. While they did not reach the medal rounds, they delivered strong performances, with three of four matches decided by a single point, including a notable win over Japan.

In BC3, Fatima Abderrahmane and Alexandre Lemaire made their debut as a pair, with Abderrahmane also competing in her first senior international event. Despite not securing wins, they showed promise with competitive ends and key points.

“This event provided a valuable opportunity to gauge where we are in our preparation at this stage of the season,” said Mario Delisle, High Performance Director for Boccia Canada. “It allows us to reassess and fine-tune our training while building toward the World Championships in Seoul later this summer.”
