Four years ago, Para snowboarder Tyler Turner was new to the international circuit. Today he is one of Canada’s best-known Paralympians.
At those 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, Turner became Canada’s first gold medallist in Para snowboard with a victory in the men’s SB-LL1 (lower limb) snowboard cross. He added a bronze in the banked slalom event.
He hasn’t slowed down since. Turner has dominated his sport, winning three straight Crystal Globes and back-to-back world championship titles in snowboard cross since Beijing.
With that resume, Turner will likely head into the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games as the favourite in his best event as well as a serious medal threat in the banked slalom.
A leader and veteran in his sport, Turner was named one of the co-captains of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic Team.
His sport success and his appearance on The Amazing Race Canada in 2023, one of the country’s most popular TV shows, have driven up his personal brand not only in his home province but across Canada – and at the same time, showcasing Paralympic sport.
Turner lost both legs below the knee because of a skydiving accident in 2017, a freak crash after filming a guest complete their first tandem skydive from 10,000 feet. He faced many challenges in a difficult recovery but has come back to making multiple jumps as a skydiving instructor in addition to his exploits in snowboarding. He also competes in adaptive surfing.
