The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) issued the following statement on the appointment of Terry Duguid as Minister of Sport:

“The Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee would like to congratulate Terry Duguid on being named Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada.

Sport has the power to transform the nation. It is an essential tool to bring people together and build stronger, healthier communities. The sport system in Canada plays a pivotal role in shaping future leaders, fostering national pride, and promoting an inclusive society for all.

We wish to thank Minister Qualtrough for her valued and strong leadership and for all she, and the federal government, have done in collaboration with the sport community in pursuit of a sport system that is safer, more inclusive, and accessible for all Canadians.

As we continue our advocacy for the sustainability of the Canadian sport system, the need for increased funding for National Sport Organizations is vital, now more than ever. We look forward to working with Minister Duguid and the Government of Canada to advance these efforts and transform Canada through the power of sport.”
