SANTIAGO, Chile – Canadian Para archers earned three silver medals in men’s doubles events this past week at a World Series stop.
Paralympian Kyle Tremblay of Deep River, Ont., teamed with Chad McCormack of Charlottetown for second spot in compound doubles; military veteran Daniel Comeau of Shannon, Que., and Spencer Arnold of Chilliwack, B.C., took silver in Wheelchair 1 doubles while Jean-François Lavergne of St-Raymond, Que., and Shawn Matheson of Ottawa were also silver medallists in recurve doubles.
Matheson posted the top individual result placing fourth in the men’s recurve. It was also a first international event for McCormack who began shooting competitively in 2025.
The same Canadian squad, minus McCormack, competes at the Parapan Am Championships in Lima which starts Wednesday.
Bertrand shows why she is a rising star
Claudia Bertrand showed why her high-performance profile and development demonstrate the potential to become a future Paralympic athlete.
The Montreal resident made a sparkling international debut on the weekend with a silver medal in the women’s BC1 at the Olbia 2026 World Boccia Challenger in Italy.
“I’m coming home with a beautiful silver medal,” Bertrand wrote on her Instagram page. “I’m very proud of my performance in my first international tournament.”
Bertrand opened the tournament placing first in her pool with an 8-1 win over Rachael Bailey of Great Britain and a 6-4 loss to world number eight Desiree Segarra of Spain. The Canadian advanced to the final with a dramatic 4-3 victory in an extra end over Eunju Hyun of South Korea. In the final, Nicola Taylor of Britain beat Bertrand 5-2.
First introduced to boccia in April 2025, Bertrand quickly embraced the sport and joined Boccia Canada’s next generation athlete stream in January 2026. She finished fifth at the 2026 Canadian Boccia Championships, held earlier this month in Richmond, B.C.
She is not yet an official member of Canada’s 2026 National or Espoir teams and attended Olbia as a Rising Star Athlete. This designation according to Boccia Canada recognizes athletes whose high-performance profile and development demonstrate the potential to become future Paralympic athletes.
Several nominations for Canadian Para athletes for Canadian Sport Awards

Wheelchair rugby player Patrice Dagenais is among three nominees for the Social Responsibility Award for creating a positive impact in their sport or community,
For the Athlete Voice Award: Rep of the Year, Para cyclist Nathan Clement is one of the nominees for his sports and athletes’ advocations.

U.S. defeats Canada 5-3 in opening game at Para Hockey Cup
Canada held a two-goal lead before the United States rallied for a 5-3 victory Sunday in the opening game of the International Para Hockey Cup in the first rematch between the Paralympic Winter Games finalists last March.
The Canadians led 3-1 with less than seven minutes remaining before the Americans mounted their comeback at Nymburk Winter Stadium.
Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ont., and Auren Halbert of Calgary each collected a goal and an assist for Canada, which was playing its first game of the 2026-27 season.
Anton Jacobs-Webb of Gatineau, Que., added the other Canadian goal, while James Dunn of Wallacetown, Ont., and Micah Kovacevich of Edmonton contributed assists.
“It’s so important in short tournaments to be able to shake whatever it is off in a short period of time,” said McGregor. “That’s in both big wins and tough losses. You have to approach each new game and each day and be ready for what’s to come.”
Monday’s game is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET, while Wednesday’s contest against Czechia begins at noon ET.
