
A total of 150 athletes, including sport assistants, pilots, and guides, formed the Lima 2019 Canadian Parapan Am Team, as the Canadian Paralympic Committee announced the official list of athletes selected to represent Canada at the Parapan American Games from August 23 to September 1 in Lima, Peru. The team came home from the Games with a total of 60 medals: 17 gold, 21 silver, and 22 bronze.
The 17 sports included: Para athletics, Para badminton, boccia, Para cycling, football 7-a-side, football 5-a-side, goalball, Para judo, Para powerlifting, shooting Para sport, sitting volleyball, Para swimming, Para table tennis, Para taekwondo, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis.
Lima served as a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, but it is not the only qualifier ahead of those Games. The men and women's wheelchair basketball teams qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games through their performances at the 2019 Parapan American Games.
The first edition of the Parapan American Games was in 1999 where 1,000 athletes from 18 countries competed in only four disciplines including Para athletics, Para swimming, Para table tennis and wheelchair basketball.
