Mel Pemble made the decision in 2020 to end her Para alpine skiing career and switch to Para cycling, a sport in which she already had plenty of experience. At age 14, she attended an athlete search at the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific in Victoria and was identified as a potential cyclist.

Pemble has certainly proved she belongs with the best in the world on both the track and road.

She burst on the international stage at the 2022 Para Cycling Track World Championships in France. She won gold medals in the Omnium and scratch race in addition to a world record performance in the flying 200-metre start, a non-medal event that determines seedings.

A year later (2023) at the combined track and road worlds in Glasgow, Scotland, Pemble marched to the podium three times. She successfully defended her Omnium crown, took silver in the scratch race and bronze in the 500-metre time trial.

She also showed her potential on the road in Scotland. In the road race, she stayed with the lead pack for three quarters of the race and was sixth. She was eighth in the time trial.

In late 2023, she starred on the track at the Parapan Am Games with gold in the 3000m pursuit and silver in the 500m sprint.

As a Para alpine skier, Pemble raced in five events at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.
