U.S. Para hockey star salutes Canada after historic defeat
Canada’s 5-1 victory over the United States in Saturday’s International Para Hockey Cup final in Nymburk, Czechia, left even American superstar Declan Farmer impressed.
The U.S. captain acknowledged the significance of the loss in a social media post after Canada captured its first title at the annual tournament.
“A loss like this one is certainly humbling, and I can’t say it’s something we ever expected,” Farmer wrote. “It was actually the biggest defeat of my entire career and the first time we’ve lost by more than a goal since 2017.
“But that’s the beauty of this sport and this rivalry.”
The rematch(es) is fast approaching as both countries compete at the annual 2026 Para Cup, Nov. 29-Dec 5, in Paradise, N.L. The top four countries in the world are entered: U.S., Canada, China and Czechia. Fans can purchase 10-game tournament package at HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets.
