‘’I consider myself a product of the Paralympic movement,’’ said Edgson, a 21-time Paralympic Games medallist from 1984 to 1992, which included 18 gold. ‘’It is important, giving back to an organization and a movement that helped me develop as an individual.

‘’At the same time it's something that I fully support and believe in.’’

Following his competitive career, Edgson was on the CPC’s board as finance director for four years. Then about two years ago he became involved with the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s Paralympic Foundation of Canada.

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities announced Tuesday a Working Group on Gender Equity in Sport to address the lack of gender equity in sport participation and sport leadership in Canada.  

The 12 members of the group, who are well-respected leaders with years of relevant experience and expertise, will share their insights with Minister Duncan on how to achieve gender equity in sport by 2035, a goal the Government of Canada announced in the 2018 Budget. 

GOLD COAST, Australia – The competition was billed as the final track race for Australian star Kurt Fearnley. 

Canada’s Alexandre Dupont said farewell by winning the gold medal in the men’s T54 1500m wheelchair race ahead of Fearnley to highlight a four-medal day for Canada’s Para athletes at the Commonwealth Games.

Dupont, a triple gold medallist at the 2015 Parapan Am Games, clocked three minutes and 11.75 seconds upsetting highly-favored Fearnley second in 3:11.92. Jake Lappin of Australia won the bronze in 3:12.60.
