Ottawa, March 29, 2018 – The Government of Canada, the Province of Alberta and the City of Calgary are pleased to announce their support for the establishment of a bid corporation that will continue the development of hosting plans and a fully costed event budget that will inform a bid to host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Calgary.

Statement from Marc-André Fabien, President, Canadian Paralympic Committee:

“We are very pleased to learn of the federal government’s support of Calgary’s potential bid for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and applaud all levels of government for their investment. The Canadian Paralympic Committee supports the bid and is excited about the possibility of hosting the most accessible multi-sport Games and bringing the world back to Canada. The Games are a huge catalyst for sport development across the country and would promote the growth of parasport in Canada, as we seek to make sport accessible and inclusive for all Canadians. They provide an opportunity to make our world-class facilities accessible for all abilities and bring the entire country together through pride and inspiration. Coming off the Canadian Paralympic Team’s most successful Winter Games ever in PyeongChang, this demonstrates continued support towards becoming a world-leading winter nation and we know our athletes would be motivated to achieve even more podium finishes on home soil.”
