Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., collected his second silver medal at the 2020 Paralympic Games Sunday night placing second in the men’s T53 400-metre.

Pongsakorn Paeyo of Thailand fended off a charging Lakatos down the final stretch to win the gold medal in a world record 46.61 seconds. Lakatos, who heled the world mark at 46.82 set in 2019,  improved his personal best to 46.75 while Vitalii Gritsenko of RPC was third in49.41.

It was a ninth career medal for Lakatos at the Games (one gold-six silver and two bronze). Lakatos has won silver in the 400 in three consecutive Games.

With Lakatos’s result, Canada now hits the 10-medal mark.  (1-6-3).

Lakatos is scheduled for six events at the Games stretching from the 100-m to the marathon.
