Records smashed at Paralympic Foundation of Canada’s 2025 Montreal ParaTough Cup presented by Pfizer
Unprecedented $320,000 raised for Para sport
MONTREAL- ParaTough Cup, the signature fundraising event of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada, smashed records on Thursday as an event-high 20 teams raised an unprecedented $320,000 to support Para athletes at every stage, from community programs to the podium.
The second stop of the 2025/26 ParaTough Cup season, presented by Pfizer, brought together 20 enthusiastic teams for a sold-out event filled with competition and purpose. Participants faced off in Para ice hockey, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and a visual impairment experience station – getting a real taste of the strength, strategy, and skill that define Para sport.
Throughout the day, Paralympians took the stage for engaging fireside chats and led demonstrations at sport stations, sharing their stories and expertise. Their presence sparked powerful moments of connection and learning – reminders of the incredible impact sport can have on and off the field of play.
“We are grateful for the incredible energy and excitement at this year’s ParaTough Cup in Montreal – a record number of teams coming together to raise more than $320,000 to support the Paralympic Movement in Canada.” said Scott Sandison, Executive Director of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada. “Every single dollar makes a huge difference – it helps open the door to Para sport for everyone across the country, and gives athletes the opportunities, equipment, coaching, and community they need to discover their potential. The collective support from everyone at this event is what fuels the future of Para sport in Canada.”
The Collective claimed the title of 2025 Montreal ParaTough Cup Champions and went above and beyond as the event’s top fundraising team, raising more than $130,000 in support of Para athletes across Canada.
Across the event, seven participants raised over $10,000 each – an amazing achievement that highlights the dedication and generosity of participants.
The Knights ended the day as a close second, and The Builders secured third. Teams from Pfizer (with five teams) AlterGo, Bell, Fasken (with three teams), Toka Construction, Groupe MACH, Radio-Canada, WADA, Air Canada, Toyota, and EllisDon also brought strong performances and incredible team spirit to an action-packed day celebrating Para sport.
‘’It’s wonderful to put yourself in the situation of Paralympians and get this kind of experience,’ said Jocelyn Perreault of the Collective, which has won the event twice before. ‘’I grew up in sport, my kids are in sport, and sport is a great way to feel included, and everyone should have that opportunity.
‘’And that includes people with a disability. There are still barriers for them and we’re happy to do our little part to help.”
Two-time Paralympic Games Para swimmer Camille Bérubé and journalist Kéven Breton of Radio-Canada were the event’s emcees and were joined by Paralympians Karolina Wisniewska, Brian Rowland and Mac Marcoux from Para alpine skiing, Sandrine Hamel and John Leslie from Para snowboard, wheelchair basketball player Cindy Ouellet, Para swimmer Tess Routliffe as well as Para ice hockey player Vincent Boily, who is vying for a berth at his first Games this March.
‘’The fundraising for this event is really impressive,’ said Rowland, a 2022 Paralympian who paid $12,000 for his latest sit-ski. ‘’It’s really cool to see people come out and try these different Para sports and they are having fun too. Our sport is expensive. At the national level we have some advantages on that front, but for those starting out that’s when it is really hard.’’
Following Montreal’s incredible event, the ParaTough Cup series has now raised nearly $3 million in support of inclusive sport since its inaugural event in 2017. All funds raised through this season’s events will contribute to the Paralympic Foundation of Canada’s $35 million IGNITE campaign, helping to break down barriers and create more opportunities for Canadians with a disability to participate and excel in sport.
The next ParaTough Cups are set for Calgary on January 29, 2026 and Toronto on April 30, 2026.
