ZURICH, Switzerland – Nathan Clement beat Giorgio Farroni of Italy in a sprint to the finish to win the men’s T1 road race on Friday for his second gold medal this week at the UCI World Road Cycling Championships.
Clement, who turns 30 on Monday, took the 31.8 kilometre three-wheel bike race in one hour and one minute and 20 seconds. The West Vancouver resident also successfully defended his time trial title on Tuesday. He now has five world championship medals over three appearances.
Earlier this month, he took silver in the time trial at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
Farroni posted the same time and Aziz Atakhodjaev of Uzbekistan was third.
It was Canada’s fourth Para cycling medal at the worlds. Besides Clement’s two gold, Alexandre Hayward of Quispamsis, N.B., also a medallist in Paris, took bronze medals in the men’s C3 (conventional bike) time trial on Tuesday and the road race on Thursday.
More Canadians are in action this weekend.
