Lima 2019 celebrates one year till Parapan Am Games
Canada will be going for gold at the Lima 2019 Parapan Am Games in just 365 days, as the event marked one year until the Opening Ceremony on Thursday.
The city celebrated the occasion with parasport exhibitions, including sitting volleyball, goalball, and wheelchair basketball, at an event put together by the local organizing committee.
Lima 2019 will be the biggest Parapan Am Games ever, with the most sports contested and the greatest number of participating athletes. It will also be the first Parapan Am Games since Canada welcomed the Americas three years ago at Toronto 2015. Canada finished second in the medal tally at its host Games, winning 168 medals including 50 gold.
“Time is flying, and it is amazing that we are only one year away from the biggest Parapan American Games in history,” said Julie Dussliere, president of the Americas Paralympic Committee.
“The Lima 2019 Organizing Committee has been working extremely hard, and I am confident they will deliver an outstanding event, the first of its kind to be held in Peru. I can already see how excited and passionate everyone working with the organization is.”
“This will be a huge opportunity for all people living with an impairment in Peru. This will be the first time many people will be able to witness first-hand the exceptional abilities of Para athletes. Lima 2019 has the potential to transform Peruvian society.”
