Grants to be awarded to sport organizations for Para sport initiatives
OTTAWA – With the nation’s top Paralympic athletes currently competing at the Paralympic Winter Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee is officially opening applications for the 2022-23 Paralympic Sport Development Fund to support sport organizations developing the next generation of athletes.
The Paralympic Sport Development Fund provides grants for local sport organizations, clubs, and programs that help athletes along their development pathway and can be used for items such as recruitment initiatives, coaching, equipment, competition and more. Funds can be used to support the creation of a new program, or the expansion of an existing successful initiative.
Grants will be available in amounts between $5,000 to $15,000, as well as a new pocket of funds for multi-organization collaborative projects up to $20,000.
CPC is encouraging collaborative projects that include more than one organization acting as a team to deliver initiatives across multiple sports, to creatively explore new ideas to further develop Para sport in Canada – for example, winter and summer sport organizations working together to provide cross-training opportunities and year-round participation.
Also new for 2022-23 is a call for programs with a focus on women and girls in Para sport, promoting and supporting their development as athletes and coaches. Funds would support initiatives designed to recruit, engage, support, and retain women and girls with a disability participating in sport.
“There are so many people within the extended Para sport community who are passionate and dedicated to growing Para sport across the country,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO, Canadian Paralympic Committee. “This grant is an important investment to support organizations at local, regional, and provincial levels who are providing quality opportunities for people with a disability to have access to sport participation and skill development and are supporting their development to reach their goals.”
The Paralympic Sport Development Fund is made possible through contributions from Sport Canada, CPC, and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.
