Yuka Chokyu, a Canadian Para badminton player, competed at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, marking her fourth Paralympic appearance and first in Para badminton. Born on December 9, 1966, in Kashiwa, Japan, Chokyu moved to Canada in 1989 and now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. She began her journey in Para sports in the 1990s after a car accident left her paraplegic, initially competing in Wheelchair tennis where she became a three-time Paralympian (2000, 2004, 2008).
Transitioning to Para badminton, Chokyu has continued to demonstrate her competitive spirit and skill. She reached the quarterfinals in women’s singles at the 2022 World Championships and secured a bronze medal in the same category at the 2023 Parapan American Games. As of June 2024, she is ranked 10th in the world in the WH1 women’s singles category. Chokyu’s journey from wheelchair tennis to Para badminton highlights her resilience and dedication to sports.
