Paris 2024 is Yuka Chokyu’s first career nomination in Para badminton for the Paralympic Games.

The veteran trailblazing athlete brings a wealth of experience to the Para badminton national team. A three-time Paralympian in wheelchair tennis, she has enjoyed many great moments in her badminton career. That includes a quarterfinal berth in women’s singles at the 2022 world championships.

At the 2023 Parapan American Games, Chokyu won the bronze medal in women’s wheelchair singles at age 56. She defeated many opponents half her age on route to the medal match.

In February 2024, she reached the round of 16 at the worlds. As of June 2024, she is ranked 10th in the world in WH1 women’s singles.

At the 2019 Parapan Ams Games,Chokyu won the silver medal in women’s singles. She competed in wheelchair tennis at the Parapan Ams in Toronto in 2015.

Chokyu started playing wheelchair tennis in the 1990s after a car accident left her a paraplegic. She struggled at first but thanks to a persistent coach and gradual improvement she loved the sport. Her career highlight was advancing to the quarterfinals at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in both women’s singles and women’s doubles.
