Fernando Lu was Canada’s youngest athlete at the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago. At age 16, he won a silver in the S10 50m freestyle and bronze in the 100 butterfly. He reached six individual finals overall including fourth places in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

He qualified for his first Paralympic Games at the 2024 Para swimming trials held in Toronto.

Lu trains with coach Ryan Skomorowski at the Langley Olympians Swim Club.

Just before the Parapan Ams in October 2023, Lu captured a pair of medals in multi-class youth finals, including gold in the men’s 100-m backstroke in a personal best time and silver in the 100 breaststroke at a World Series Para swimming competition Guadalajara, Mexico.
