MONTREAL – Summer McIntosh wasn’t the only racer breaking records on Sunday at the 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials.

Athletes in Canada’s Paralympic program also rewrote the history books chalking up a trio of new records.

In the men’s 100 back multiclass final, Nicolas-Guy Turbide (Club de Natation Région de Québec) lowered his own S12 national mark, winning gold in 1:02.42.

The 2022 world champion and two-time Paralympic medallist in the event in the S13 category, Turbide was reclassified as an S12 earlier this year.

“This was my only event here this week, so I’m very happy how it turned out,” said the 29-year-old national team veteran. “It’s always nice to have the chance to do it in front of my family. They came from Quebec City to watch the race so it’s super exciting.

“I haven’t really trained for the 100 back so far this year but it’ll be most of my focus the next two years as we move towards LA.”

Meanwhile, in the men’s 100m fly multiclass race, Fernando Lu, of Burnaby, B.C. (Olympians Swimming), took the title while posting a new national S10 record of 57.63. Nicholas Bennett, of Parksville, B.C. (HPC–Quebec), claimed the silver at 56.85, an S14 Canadian standard.

In other Para swimming finals, Katie Cosgriffe of Burlington, Ont. (Wilfrid Laurier University / Oakville Aquatic Club), was crowned champion in both the women’s 100m back and 100m fly, while Jordan Tucker, of Guelph, Ont. (Royal City Aquatics) and Quebec City’s Étienne Boutin-Côté (CNQ) won the women’s and men’s 50m back titles respectively.

More than 680 athletes compete at the five-day event, which is used to select several Canadian squads including the one for the Para Pan Pacific Championships (Aug. 28-30 in Walnut, Calif.).

CBC Gem, CBC Sports  and ICI TOU.TV stream each session beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET for heats and 5:30 p.m. ET for finals.
