Win over Iran puts Canadian women in semifinals at 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships

Canada still hasn’t lost a set in the tournament

HANGZHOU, China – Canada’s women’s team continued its flawless run at the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships on Wednesday with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Iran in the quarterfinals.

The Canadians have not lost a set in its five matches so far.

Team captain Heidi Peters of Neerlandia, Alta., continued to be a major offensive force on Wednesday as she produced 24 points (16 attacks, seven aces and one block) to lead Canada.

These worlds are a first opportunity to qualify for the 2028 Paralympic Games.

Julia Chisholm of Victoria scored 10 points while Amber Brown of Wandering River, Alta., and Katelyn Wright of Edmonton added seven each.

The Canadians now face their biggest challenge yet as they take on Paralympic Games champions and world number one USA in its semifinal on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. (ET).

According to Volleyball Canada the top two excluding the host U.S. qualify for LA28.

The other semifinal pits China against defending world champion Brazil.

The Canadian men lost their 9-16th placement match to Croatia 25-23, 28-26, 25-19. Doug Learoyd of Calgary had 19 points for Canada.
