Athletes and their coaches to receive $10,000 in funding

Emerging Para archery star and military veteran Daniel Comeau is among 13 Para athletes recently announced as 2025 Petro-Canada FACE™ grant recipients. Each athlete along with their coach will receive $10,000 in funding for the next year.

The FACE Program, now in its 37th year, provides financial support to both athletes and coaches as they pursue their Olympic and Paralympic dreams. Since 1988, Petro-Canada has provided over $14 million in financial support to more than 3,500 Canadian athletes and coaches.

This year, the FACE grant is awarded to 55 athlete-coach pairs striving to represent Team Canada but who do not yet qualify for government funding. These Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls will receive $10,000 between each pair to fund training, equipment, education, and travel costs.

Comeau, from Shannon, Que. near Quebec City, recently teamed with Paralympian Kyle Tremblay for a fourth-place finish in the compound men’s open doubles wheelchair event at the Para archery world championships in South Korea. He also added more medals on the Americas World Cup circuit this past summer.

‘’I started Para archery just over two years ago,’’ said Comeau, coached by François Bélanger. ‘’This is just the beginning for me. I know I can do much better.”

Recent FACE™ recipients include boccia player Danik Allard, Paralympic Games champion Para swimmer Nicholas Bennett and Para throwing world championship medallist Katie Pegg, all members of the Paris 2024 Canadian Paralympic Team.
