Wins bronze in men’s PTS5 Para triathlon

Stefan Daniel of Calgary has won the bronze medal in the men’s PTS5 Para triathlon to reach the podium for a second straight Games.

The 24-year-old was third after both the swimming and cycling portions and clocked a final time of 59 minutes and 22 seconds. Martin Schulz of Germany successfully defended his Paralympic title clocking 58:10 and George Peasgood of Britain, the leader after the first two transitions, took the silver in 58:55.

Back at the Rio 2016 Games, Daniel took the silver and he also has four world titles to his credit.

It is Canada’s ninth medal of the Games (one gold, five silver and three bronze).

Kamylle Frenette of Dieppe, N.B. was fourth in the women’s PTS5 in her first Paralympic Games.
