LANDGRAAF, The Netherlands – Sandrine Hamel of St. Sauveur, Que., is two-for two this season on the World Cup Para snowboard circuit. The 21-year-old Paralympic Games team member collected a second silver medal in two days on Thursday in the women’s banked slalom.
It’s her first two career medals on the circuit.
Lisa Bunschoten of the Netherlands won the gold medal in 45.98 seconds followed by Hamel who clocked 48.52 and Renske van Beek of the Netherlands in third in 48.85. It was the same 1-2-3 finish on Wednesday.
Each of the riders executes two runs with the best time of the two counting as the final result.
‘’I’m very pleased with my consistency,’’ said Hamel, born with a double major scoliosis. ‘’It’s a great day even though my objective was to post a faster time than yesterday.’’
In the men’s event, Sun Qi of China was the winner in 39.92, Matti Suur-Hamari of Finland second in 40.14 and Ben Tudhope of Australia third in 40.94.
John Leslie of Arnprior, Ont., was fourth in 42.13 and Alex Massie of Barrie, Ont., fifth in 42.57.
