Canada’s Para athletes have arrived at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in style.
The team kits from lululemon were designed in consultation with Para athletes and feature five key moments – travel, Opening Ceremony, podium, media, and Closing Ceremony, each with specialized adaptive innovations built for the athletes who will wear them.
“Right off the bat I knew it was a home run,” said Para snowboarder Tyler Turner, who modelled gear for the announcement and launch. “There’s so many incredible pieces across the whole kit. It’s very Canadian and very authentic… and not just red. It’s really cool to see them think outside the box.”
The designs highlight Canadian pride, inclusivity and thermoregulation through an elevated styling approach, with specific elements tailored to athletes who use wheelchairs or mobility devices.
Adaptive styles
Each key moment outfit includes accessibility features developed through direct athlete consultation.
The Opening Ceremony jacket comes in two versions – a full-length standing style and a hip-length seated style – with the back hem cinchable for added protection. Elastic cuffs are reduced on the palm side for athletes who use wheelchairs, and pocket angles across the kit have been adjusted for easy access from a seated position.
All jackets feature magnetic clasps for seamless front closure, backpack straps adorned with “Canada” in text and braille, and pull tab loops throughout footwear and pants to support athletes with prosthetics or mobility devices.
The collection also features innovative adaptive winter boots. Not only waterproof and insulated, these boots include a lock-and-release tongue design that allows for easy entry and accommodates both wide feet and prosthetic devices.
“I know so much thought and so many conversations went into the development of this kit with Paralympians being top of mind,” said Para ice hockey athlete and four-time Paralympian Tyler McGregor. “There are so many Paralympians with various needs, various body types, various disabilities – it truly is so important to make sure everyone, regardless of what their disability may be, feels comfortable first and foremost.”
Canadian Pride
Canadian pride runs through the kit in both bold and subtle ways.
The oversized quilted maple leaf vest anchors the Opening Ceremony look, while the podium fit carries a typographic design highlighting Canada’s natural landscape. The colour palette pushes beyond traditional red, layering multiple red tones and introducing an aqua-green for the Closing Ceremony set, evoking icy Canadian winters and icebergs.
The result is a kit that Para cross-country skier Christina Picton says was built with athletes genuinely in mind: “lululemon has adapted the pieces and its versatility. It really was made with our needs and our abilities in mind. It’s just so functional and I love all the detail that they put into it.
The jacket linings feature motivational quotes in both French and English, a detail that resonated with emerging Para ice hockey athlete Vincent Boily: “I like the French and English quotes on the jackets. These are great features!”
Many Team Canada x lululemon items are available for purchase through the lululemon retail stores and online. Any purchases of Future Legacy items directly support athletes by 10% of sales going towards the Paralympic Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
