LIMA – Six sports will be in action for the Canadian Parapan Am Team on Wednesday, with the first teams set to play for medals in sitting volleyball. Here’s a look at what’s coming up at the Lima 2019 Parapan Am Games on Day 6:
• In wheelchair basketball, Canada will be taking on Peru in the men’s quarterfinals in a must-win if they are to keep the chance to qualify for Tokyo alive. They will be the strong favourites in the game, entering as the top finisher in Group A with a 3-0 record while Peru concluded preliminary play at 0-3 at the bottom of Group B. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. local time / 7:30 p.m. ET.
• The team will continue its medal chase on the fourth day of Para swimming competition that will see the women’s 4x100m medley relay hit the pool. Double medallists Nicholas Bennett (two gold), Angela Marina (one gold, one silver), Krystal Shaw (two silver), and Arianna Hunsicker (two bronze) will be back in action, as will Michelle Tovizi, Emma Grace Van Dyk, and Jacob Brayshaw.
• Para athletics competition wraps up early Wednesday evening with Rio 2016 silver medallist Alister McQueen competing in the javelin throw. Others in action include Sarah Mickey, also in the javelin, Madison Wilson-Walker in the 100m, and Ben Brown in the 1500m.
• Rob Shaw and Mitch McIntyre will be fighting for the chance to secure a medal in wheelchair tennis as they compete in the wheelchair tennis quad singles semifinals. Both will take on Americans for a place in the gold-medal match – Shaw, the No. 2 seed in the draw, will face Bryan Barten while McIntyre will take on No. 1 seed David Wagner. Both players, in their first Parapan Am Games, are scheduled to be the third match on their courts after an 11 a.m. start.
• Canada’s sitting volleyball teams will be playing for bronze medals, where they will be aiming to match their results from Toronto 2015. The men will take on Colombia at 3 p.m. local time, while the women will face off versus Peru at 7 p.m. The games have implications for world ranking points, which helps determine invitations to a last-chance Tokyo 2020 qualifier in March 2020.
• In goalball, the men will take on Argentina in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. local time while round-robin play continues for the women with a game at 4:15 p.m. local versus Mexico.
