Sets personal best in T51 100m

Cody Fournie

KOBE, Japan (Athletics Canada) To earn a silver medal at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships and book another quota spot for Canada at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Cody Fournie would need his best ever T51 100 metres race.

He delivered.

Fournie’s new personal best time of 21.17 seconds was good for his first ever Worlds medal and another male slot for the Canadian Paralympic team this summer. He finished 5th in the same event at last summer’s World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.

“That race went fantastic! I felt good – I felt like I could stay on top,” Fournie said. “My starts have greatly improved, but I’ve got to get better at my technique when I get up to speed. Nowhere to go but up from here.”

The top two ranked athletes in individual medal events can earn quote spots for their country in that event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
