OTTAWA – The Government of Canada announced the federal budget on Tuesday, which included a $30 million investment over the next five years to promote accessible, ethical, equitable, and safe sport.
Statement from Marc-André Fabien, president, Canadian Paralympic Committee:
The Canadian Paralympic Committee applauds the Government of Canada for its significant investment in accessible and safe sport for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Sport has the power to change lives, from the recreational and grassroots level all the way to representing Canada on the international stage. This funding will help Canadian sport organizations improve and increase their programming and services, giving more people across the country a chance to participate in sport and to succeed in a safe and fun environment.
This is a great step forward towards providing more opportunity for people with disabilities to access Para sport, such as through the augmented funding for local sporting infrastructure to increase accessibility, and perhaps one day even make the Paralympic podium. Minister Duncan has been a superb leader with her efforts towards creating an inclusive, healthy, and world-leading sport system in Canada and we are pleased to see the government’s continued commitment in making this a priority.
