Canadian pairs BC4 Boccia team headed to bronze medal match
Iulian Ciobanu and Alison Levine fell 6-4 to Hong Kong in the semifinals
PARIS – Canada’s mixed pairs BC4 boccia team will play for bronze after falling 6-4 to Hong Kong in the semifinals.
The duo of Iulian Ciobanu and Alison Levine will search for their first Paralympic medal when they play Thailand tomorrow morning.
It was a tough match for the world no. 1 ranked BC4 pair, as they opened with one point against Hong Kong’s Cheung Yuen and Leung Yuk Wing, but conceded six in the following two ends.
They battled back for three points in the final end, but unfortunately, the deficit was too great to surmount.
Ciobanu and Levine had a strong start to their medal chase in the pairs competition, defeating China 8-5 and Croatia 6-4 in pool play. In their quarterfinal matchup this morning, they blanked Ukraine’s Nataliia Konenko and Artem Kolinko in a commanding 6-0 win.
Both competing in their third Paralympic Games, Ciobanu and Levine are still looking for their first medal. They were both double medalists at last year’s Parapan American Games in Santiago, including winning the gold medal in BC4 mixed pairs.
They are set to face Thailand’s Nuanchen Phonsila and Pornchok Larpyen in the bronze medal match tomorrow morning.
That one kicks off at 6:20 am ET/3:20 am PT tomorrow, September 5th.
