Canada’s women’s sitting volleyball team needs one more win to qualify for 2028 Paralympic Games

Plays China for bronze and Games berth at world championships

HANGZHOU, China – The Canadian women’s team will face China for the bronze medal and an early ticket for the 2028 Paralympic Games after a tough semifinal match against top-ranked United States on Thursday at the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships.

The Americans won the match 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-7). It was Canada’s first defeat at the championships after opening the tournament with five straight wins without losing a set.

The USA plays Brazil for gold. Canada’s bronze-medal game against China is on July 17 or July 16 at 10 p.m. EDT. 

It was a two-match day for the Canadian men’s team to close out the tournament. In their final game, Canada beat Japan 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) to secure 15th place.

The tournament is the first opportunity for teams to secure qualification for the 2028 Paralympic Games, with the men’s and women’s top two (excluding USA) earning direct qualification places.
