Canada’s Tyler Turner wins IPC’s Best Male Winter Athlete Award for 2025
Paralympic Games champion took world championship and World Cup crowns in banner year
BONN, Germany – Para snowboarder Tyler Turner, one of Canada’s top gold medal hopes for the upcoming Paralympic Winter Games, was named the International Paralympic Committee’s top male winter athlete as it announced its award winners for 2025.
Turner, from Campbell River, B.C., capped off a stellar 2024–2025 season by claiming both the Crystal Globe trophy, awarded for winning the overall season standings, and his third consecutive world title in snowboard cross at the FIS 2025 Para Snowboard World Championships.
‘’That Crystal Globe might be the sweetest to date because the competition is only getting stronger and stronger,’’ said Turner. ‘’Anyone can win on any day. That has been the most ups and downs that I’ve ever experienced in a World Cup season. ‘’
His gold medal performance at the world championships was produced on home snow at Big White, B.C., , making the achievement even more special for Turner. It was also his third straight world crown.
At the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, Turner became Canada’s first gold medallist in Para snowboard with a victory in the men’s SB-LL1 (lower limb) snowboard cross. He added a bronze in the banked slalom event.
A leader and veteran in his sport, Turner was named one of the co-captains of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic Team earlier this week.
Turner lost both legs below the knee because of a skydiving accident in 2017, a freak crash after filming a guest complete their first tandem skydive from 10,000 feet.
