Collects 10th career Paralympic Games medal

Brent Lakatos blasted from the start and raced to a silver medal in the men’s T53 100-m wheelchair race at the Paralympic Games.

It was his third silver of the Games and the 10th medal of his amazing career in five Paralympic appearances.

Pongsakorn Payeo of Thailand found another gear at the halfway mark to win his second gold in a Games record 14.20 seconds. Lakatos, the defending champion and still the world record holder, followed at 14.55 and Adbulrahman Alqurashi of Saudi Arabia was third in 14.76.

The 41-year-old Lakatos from Dorval, Que. earns Canada’s 16th medal of the Games (three gold, eight silver and five bronze), five of which are in Para athletics.
