Tarek Dahab, a former police officer, only started Para cycling in early 2023.

He was on both the track and the road at the UCI Cycling World Championships held that year in Glasgow, Scotland.

In the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Dahab grazed the podium reaching the men’s one kilo final and placing fourth. Of note, Dahab was the only rider in the final to improve his time from the prelims.

He also raced in the individual pursuit, the scratch race, the Omnium and the team relay on the track. The C2 rider then showed his versatility with strong performances in the time trial and road races.

It was in 2017 that Dahab was diagnosed with life-altering injuries. He was hit by a car while cycling in the bike lane.

He was just finishing his ride, about one kilometre from home. Dahab was dragged while under the car but luckily neither of his legs were fractured.

He underwent eight surgeries for his neck and broken vertebrae. Dahab emerged able to walk on his own power.
Before his accident, he was a police officer with the City of Montreal.
