Keegan Gaunt achieved her dream by qualifying for her debut Paralympics, earning a spot on the team for the Paris 2024 Paralympics. She is the daughter of Robbi Weldon, who won a gold medal in Para cycling for Canada at the 2012 Paralympic Games and competed in four Paralympic Games overall in both cycling and cross-country skiing.

Gaunt, who competes in the T13 1500m, made her major Games debut at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, where she finished in third place. Like her mother, Gaunt was diagnosed with Stargardt Disease in her teenage years, a condition that attacks the central vision and has left her with blind spots.

Her father, Robert Gaunt, is also visually impaired and was a two-time Paralympian for Canada in men’s goalball. He has worked at CNIB for 19 years and is the president of CNIB SmartLife and Open Innovation.

In 2021, Gaunt set a new Canadian record in the women’s T13 1500m with a time of 4:41.62, breaking a record that had stood since 1984. Outside of athletics, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from the University of Guelph and worked as a corporate banking intern at HSBC in 2021.
