At the Polish Winter Open in November 2022, visually impaired swimmer Hunter Helberg set personal bests in two of eight events. He clocked 40.66 in the S12 50m breaststroke and 35.50 in the 50 back. He finished first in his class in three races and top three in all eight.

In December 2022 at the Ken Demchuk International Invitational in Vancouver, Helberg won the S12 100-m backstroke in a Canadian record 1:16.94. He bettered that at the 2023 Summer Nationals to 1:14.82.  As of October 2023, he holds national marks in the 800m freestyle, the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke and the 50 butterfly.

Also in 2022 at the Canada Games, Helberg took gold in the Para men’s 50m and 100m butterfly, and silver in the men’s 200m individual medley.
