Experience

Toronto 2015

Dave Marchand acquired a disability in 2000 due to complications from bacterial meningitis. During treatment at the Glenrose Hospital in Edmonton, Marchand got the opportunity to try sitting volleyball and was instantly hooked. Marchand played several sports before his illness including golf, hockey and squash.

Eleven years later, Marchand gained a spot on the Canadian National Sitting Volleyball Team and helped Canada to bronze at the Guadalajara 2011 Parapan American Games in Mexico. He believes that sport is what has allowed him to have a healthy body and a healthy mind. “My four years with the national team have been the best four years of my life,” said Marchand. “It has been really good for me with the hard work and a lot fun.”
