Christine Robbins was born into a family of world-class athletes. Both of her aunts competed at the highest levels as part of Team Canada in show jumping and alpine ski racing. Robbins was born with a visual impairment and her parents always encouraged her to pursue many sports: swimming and running on high school teams, skiing, and especially horse jumping. Career highlights include top ribbons in many Grand Prix and a gold medal win at the B.C. Summer Games.
After the decision to stop riding competitively in order to concentrate on her post-secondary education, Robbins continued to stay fit through running and swimming. When she moved to Ottawa, a friend encouraged her to join a half-marathon clinic with the Running Room. She completed four half-marathons in two years.
After her fourth half-marathon she got bored of just running and needed a new challenge. Another friend invited her to Triathlon Canada’s first para-triathlon camp and she has been hooked ever since. She loves the challenge of training for all three sports at once.
In 2013 Robbins raced para-triathlons for the first time. Each race has been an adventure, and a great learning experience. Winning the national championships in her category with her guide at the time, Lindsay Los, and being surrounded by her very supportive family was a definite highlight.
