As she heads to the top in her sport, Becky Richter is not forgetting about those who are currently going through the similar experiences she did after she was left a quadriplegic when she was injured in a single vehicle rollover in 2003.  At the Saskatoon City Hospital Richter regularly shares her personal experiences about returning to an active lifestyle and mentors new patients undergoing the rehab process.  She also brings along her racing wheelchair and other equipment and talks about her incredible experiences as an elite athlete.

Richter started playing wheelchair rugby in 2005 as she renewed her love of sport after her accident. The Saskatoon resident was always involved in sport and particularly enjoyed track and field and basketball as a youngster.  She joined Saskatoon’s Cyclones Track and Road Club so she could get into shape.  Richter is now considered one of Canada’s most versatile para-athletes in track and field.

Her big motivation is to eventually earn a spot on the Canadian team for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio and a big step towards that goal was earning gold in club and bronze in discus at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.  Entering the 2015 season, she held the Canadian records in the T51 100-m, 200-m 400-m and 800-m as well as the F51 discus and club throw.   She earned silver medals in her two throwing events at her first IPC World Championships in 2013 and added a bronze in the club throw at the 2015 worlds.
