Alec Elliot is a Canadian Para swimmer from Kitchener, Ontario, who is set to compete in his third Paralympic Games at Paris 2024. Born on July 5, 1996, Elliot has a condition called syndactyly, which affects the development of his hands and feet, limiting their functionality. This condition places him in the S10, SB9, and SM10 disability classifications for Para swimming.
Elliot’s swimming career began at a young age with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club. He initially left the sport to focus on football but returned to competitive swimming at age 12. His international breakthrough came in 2015 at the Toronto Parapan American Games, where he won five bronze medals. He continued to excel, earning his first World Championships medal in 2019 with a bronze in the 400m freestyle S10. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Elliot placed fifth in the 200m individual medley, 400m freestyle, and 100m butterfly.
Elliot has also been successful in recent years, securing bronze medals at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships in the 400m freestyle S10 and 100m backstroke S10. In 2023, he continued to demonstrate his skill by placing seventh in both the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester. His performances secured his spot on the Canadian team for Paris 2024.
