Scott Lutes

Scott Lutes won the bronze medal with Paul Tingley and Logan Campbell in the three-person keelboat at the 2016 Paralympic Games.  He placed 10th at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Lutes became a wheelchair user after a motor vehicle accident in 1974. He started competitive sailing in 2007 in the Martin 16 and 2.4mR classes. Winning his first Martin 16 regatta, Coupe de Québec, gave him a real appetite for racing. In August 2011, he tried out for a position on the three-person Sonar. He joined the team full-time in November 2011.

Lutes loves sports because it creates the need to strive for consistent high performance. It also heightens his awareness in day-to-day living and working. Sailing gives him an amazing thrill and is something he can do for life. He says that while sailing, disabilities don’t matter and a person finds ways to adapt and bring their abilities into play.
