Classification

Thrower Sarah Mickey is becoming a consistent member of Canada’s national Para athletics team. She has represented Canada at the last two world championships (2019 and 2023), the 2020 Paralympic Games and the 2019 Parapan American Games.

The 2019 Parapan Ams was her major Games debut. Mickey placed fourth in the women’s discus with a personal best throw of 21.38 metres, less than a metre from the podium. That eclipsed the 21.30 she threw earlier in the year at a meet in Lethbridge.

Then a few months later, she launched a 20.98 throw for fifth spot in her world championships debut in Dubai.

Despite some health struggles in 2021, Mickey added two personal bests, setting new marks in both discus (23.47 metres) and shot put (6.98 metres).

She started in Para athletics in 2015. She played Para ice hockey for the Canadian women’s national team and the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds. Prior to her illness she practiced figure skating.
