At the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, Michael Barber set a personal best and Canadian record 3:58.64 in the men’s T20 1500m to place ninth.

He made his multi-sport Games debut in 2019 at the Parapan Ams in Lima and reached the 1500m final placing sixth.

Before the Parapan Ams, Barber competed at his second consecutive world junior championships for Para athletics. At the world juniors in 2017 he won the 1500m and was fourth in the 400m in the U18 category.
