Pelletier

Martin Pelletier  headed to his fifth Parapan American Games in Toronto. The one-arm amputee reached the podium in his first three Parapan Am Games appearances, winning bronze in singles in 1999 and 2003 and bronze in team in 2007.

In July 1992, Pelletier was in a motorcycle accident which caused him to lose his right arm. Two years later, he discovered a passion and talent for table tennis by simply starting to play recreationally with his friends. Within months of picking up the sport, Pelletier exploded on to the international scene and won a gold medal at the Detroit U.S. Open.

In 2001, he earned the gold medal at the Pan American Championships for para-table tennis in the men’s singles class, becoming the first Canadian to hold that title

Pelletier was hooked on table tennis and continued to persevere in the sport. He has never looked back. He also competed at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

He attributes much of success to his drive and love for a challenge. He abides by the motto of living in the moment.

He is the very proud father of two children, his daughter Jahelle and his son Cédrik-Alex.
