Laura Court fell into the sport when her father, a former rower, suggested she pick up rowing when she entered Grade 9 at Ridley College in St. Catharines. She was considered too small to be a rower so the coaches suggested coxswain and she loved it immediately.

Court helped Canada's women's eight crew to consecutive gold medals at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships.
