Jesse Zesseu will make his Paralympic Games debut at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. At the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games in November 2023, Zesseu enjoyed a stellar Games winning silver in the men’s F37 discus and bronze in the men’s T37/38 long jump.
This was Jesse’s second international Para sport event after making his Para athletics world championships debut in 2023 in Paris, placing 10th in the F37 long jump and also competing in the discus throw.
A year earlier he got his first Games experience at the Canada Games with gold in the shotput and silver in the long jump.
Born in Cameroon, Jesse moved to Canada when he was five, with his parents and older brother and sister. Jesse joined the Para family as an adult as he was not aware he would be eligible. He was born with cerebral palsy after having a stroke at birth. He has 75 percent function on his right side compared to his left side.
While working for Cerebral Palsy Ontario he was told to investigate his status as a Para athlete and discovered he was eligible. Already a track and field athlete, his Para career took off when he enrolled at the University of Guelph. It was one of the best programs in the country and he found a brother and mentor in coach Paul Galas.
