Alec Denys represented Canada at five Paralympic Games between 1984 and 2000 (New York, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, and Sydney), before taking a break in 2004. He took up the sport in 1980, just a year after he fell from a tree and crushed his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

A believer in the power of sport, Denys has also set Canadian records in swimming and javelin, and enjoys cycling, wheelchair basketball, kayaking, skiing, sledge hockey, and wheelchair curling.

Currently the Vice-President of High Performance, and chair of the High Performance Committee on the Board of Directors for Archery Canada, Denys was the winner of Peterborough’s 2014 Holnbeck Award – a lifetime achievement award for those who’ve enhanced the quality of life of people with disabilities.
