The Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games is a qualification opportunity for many sports for next summer’s Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Below are the Paris implications for sports/events in which Canadians are competing:

Boccia

The winners of each of the BC3 and BC4 pairs and BC1-BC2 team tournaments will secure a qualification slot for their country for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, while the event also offers world ranking points towards qualification.  

UPDATE: Canada has earned a quota spot for Paris in BC4 pairs thanks to Iulian Ciobanu and Alison Levine's gold medal in Santiago. 

Goalball

The winning nation of the men’s and women’s tournaments earn a slot for Paris.   

UPDATE: Canada has qualified for Paris in women's goalball with the team's gold medal victory in Santiago. 

Para Archery

The top two finishers in the men’s compound event will earn a qualification spot for their country for Paris.

UPDATE: Kyle Tremblay has earned a quota spot for Canada in the men's compound open for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The top-two finishers, U.S. and Costa Rica, had already locked up quota spots before the Games, therefore the next two countries, Canada and Mexico, grabbed the two spots from these Games.

Para Athletics

The event is not a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but could allow athletes to achieve high performance standards that may be used in slot allocation for the Games next summer.

Para Badminton

The tournament counts towards rankings points in the qualification race for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Para Cycling

The event counts towards Paralympic Games qualifying, with riders earning points for their results. Country quota spots for Para cycling at Paris 2024 will be based on rankings from various competitions taking place before June 30, 2024. 

Para Judo

The event offers rankings points towards Paris qualification. 

Para Swimming

The event is not a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but does offer an opportunity for athletes to become eligible for Paris and meet a minimum qualification standard for the Paralympic Games.

Para Table Tennis

The winners of the singles tournaments in each classification will directly qualify for next summer’s Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. 

Shooting Para Sport

The 10m air rifle standing is a Paralympic qualifier, with the winner of the event earning a quota spot for their country at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Wheelchair Basketball

The winning nation of the men’s and women’s tournaments will earn a slot for Paris.

Wheelchair Rugby

The winning nation will earn a slot for Paris.

Wheelchair Tennis

The winners of the men’s and women’s singles tournaments will automatically qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The event also counts towards the athletes’ world rankings, which will ultimately determine qualification for the Paralympic Games next summer.
