Katie Pegg wins bronze in women’s shotput at Para athletics world championships
Rummery fourth, Zesseu sixth, Sharma eighth in respective events
NEW DELHI (Athletics Canada) If you’re going throw a shot put further than you have ever thrown it, Worlds is probably a good time to do it.
Katie Pegg won bronze in the women’s F46 shot put at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships today with a personal best throw of 12.76 metres.
“I just went out there, threw a heavy ball really far and I had fun. I didn’t put too much pressure on myself. I knew walking in that I was ready. We’ve been working so hard to get to this very day. Today, walking to that circle, I was ready to go out there and just do the best I could,” Pegg said.
Having never thrown over 12 metres in competition before, Pegg surpassed that mark 5 times in 6 throws, culminating in her new personal best on her sixth and final throw, cementing her spot on the podium.
“Leading up to today, I had thrown a few throws over 12 metres. In our training camp, I had thrown 12.50 metres. It was kind of a shock, like “Oh my gosh, I can do this.” Walking into this, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I can only control what I do in the circle. I can’t choose what number I throw. Today I did enough inside and even outside in terms of gym and work with my coach, that it really paid off and we hit that 12 metre mark and even surpassed it by 76 centimeters,” Pegg said.
