Brent Lakatos pleased with season start at Para athletics Grand Prix

Canadian wheelchair legend Brent Lakatos showed he’s still in business this past weekend with medal performances at the Nottwil Para athletics Grand Prix event including a victory in the men’s T53 800-metre.

“It was a good race,  I’m happy with the time, but it didn’t go as I’d imagined,”  said Lakatos in an interview with Sportcom, about the 800.

The 44-year-old from Dorval, Que., was trailing after 400 meters, finished in 1:32.49, ahead of long-time rival,  Paeyo Pongsakorn of Thailand

“It gives me confidence and I’m very happy with my time. It’s maybe my third-best time ever, so it’s very good.’’

The 44-year-old Lakatos is a six-time Paralympian with 13 career medals and won gold in the 800 last year in Paris.

Canada fielded a 16-member team for the competition which traditionally launches its international season.
